How many ドイツ語 words do you know

Tick the words whose meaning you know. In a couple of minutes you get an estimate of your vocabulary size. Free, no account needed.

How it works

  1. 1You see a list of words, from the most common to the rare.
  2. 2Tick the ones whose meaning you actually know.
  3. 3A few of the words are invented. They measure how generously you tick, and the estimate is adjusted accordingly.
  4. 4At the end you get an approximate word count and a CEFR level.

How the estimate is made

Words are grouped by how common they are: the first thousand most frequent, the second thousand, and so on up to rare words. A few words are shown from each group. If you know half the words shown from a group, you are assumed to know about half the words in that group. The groups are then added up.

What this test does not do

It does not check whether you can use a word in speech — only whether you recognise it. Recognition is always wider than active vocabulary. And it is an estimate: the result moves between attempts, which is why the number is rounded to hundreds.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?
No. The test is free and works without signing in.
Why the invented words?
Without them almost everyone overstates their result by ticking words that feel vaguely familiar. Ticks on invented words show how generously you answer, and the estimate is corrected.
Does it work for native speakers?
Yes. Native speakers usually know between 10,000 and 30,000 words, and this test separates that range — unlike a level test, where a native simply answers everything correctly.
How accurate is it?
It is a sample-based estimate, not a count. Variation between attempts is normal; read the order of magnitude, not the last digit.
