Getting Ready for Your First Race
Preparing for your first race can feel exciting and a little scary. First, choose a realistic distance – a 5 km run is a good start for most beginners. Make a simple training plan: run three times a week, adding a short, easy run, a longer run, and a day for speed work. Don't forget to stretch before and after each session; it helps prevent injuries. Eat balanced meals with carbs, protein, and vegetables, and stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. The week before the race, reduce the mileage (this is called tapering) so your body can recover fully. Get a good night's sleep the night before, and arrive early to the start line to warm up slowly. Finally, enjoy the experience – the crowd, the music, and the feeling of crossing the finish line!
